How to Prepare for Your

Permanent Eyeliner Appointment

Expert tips for a smooth service and beautiful, long-lasting results.

Cleaning eyes before permanent makeup service

Why Preparation Matters

Proper preparation helps:

  • Reduce sensitivity during your appointment

  • Improve pigment retention

  • Support smoother healing

  • Minimize irritation and complications

Following these guidelines ensures your skin is in the best possible condition for treatment.

Before

DO

  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free eyes. This allows for a sterile environment and proper pigment application.

  • Stay well hydrated. Hydrated skin responds better to treatment and healing.

  • Eat a light meal beforehand. Helps stabilize blood sugar and reduces sensitivity.

AVOID

  • Avoid caffeine the day of your appointment. Caffeine can increase sensitivity and cause twitching.

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior. Alcohol thins the blood and may increase bleeding.

  • Avoid working out the day of your appointment.

  • Do not wear contact lenses to your appointment. Bring glasses instead.

  • Avoid lash extensions or lash lifts beforehand. These can interfere with the procedure and healing.

Medications & Skin Considerations

  • Avoid fish oils, niacin, vitamin E and ibuprofen for 48 hours.

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications (if medically safe to pause - always consult your provider)

  • Avoid Accutane or active acne skincare for at least 12 months.

  • No Latisse or any lash growth serum for 3 weeks.

Let me know if you:

  • Have sensitive eyes or allergies

  • Are prone to swelling

  • Have had previous permanent makeup

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Your service includes a detailed consultation and pre-draw to map the perfect shape for your eyes. Nothing is done without your approval.

A topical numbing agent is used throughout the procedure to keep you comfortable, and pigment is carefully implanted along the lash line for a smooth, even result.

⏱ Appointment time: 2.5-3.5 hours

Styles of Permanent Eyeliner

Winged Permanent Eyeliner

A soft, lifted wing—without the daily struggle.

Winged permanent eyeliner creates a defined lash line with a subtle to bold wing, giving your eyes a lifted, elongated look. This style mimics your favorite eyeliner—just perfectly applied, every day.

Each set is fully customized to complement your eye shape, ensuring the wing enhances (not overpowers) your features.

Classic Permanent Eyeliner

Wake up with perfectly defined eyes—no makeup needed

Classic permanent eyeliner is designed to enhance your natural eye shape with a crisp, clean line along the lash line. Whether you want a soft everyday definition or a more noticeable eyeliner look, this service is fully customized to you.

This is the perfect solution for anyone who wants to simplify their routine while still looking polished and put together.

Shadow (Soft / Powder) Permanent Eyeliner

Soft, smoky definition for a diffused, makeup look

Shadow permanent eyeliner (also called powder, stardust, smoky or shaded liner) creates a soft, blended eyeliner with a subtle gradient effect. Think of it as a smoky, diffused liner—not harsh, not solid, but beautifully soft. Multiple colors and shades may be used. From black, dark brown to light brown.

This technique is perfect for clients who want a more makeup-like finish rather than a crisp line.

Aftercare

  • Avoid getting treated area wet for 7 days.

  • Avoid long hot showers with steam for at least 7 days.

  • Avoid sleeping face-down for at least 7 days and keep your pillowcase clean.

  • Do not exercise heavily for 7 days to avoid sweating.

  • For 10-14 days wash eyelids gently in the morning and night with cetaphil and a cotton pad, and then pat dry and apply aquaphor.

  • Avoid contact lenses and use glasses instead for 1 week.

  • Avoid Latisse for 3 weeks.

  • Avoid direct sun/UV exposure for at least 1 month.

  • Do not schedule facials, botox, chemical treatments, microdermabrasion, etc. for at least 1 month.

  • Avoid picking, scratching, scrubbing or peeling the treated area to avoid scarring.

  • Make sure nothing unsanitary comes in contact with your treated area until completely healed.

  • Do not apply makeup or sunscreen to your treated area until completely healed. 7-10 days

  • For itching, use any ointment/lotion as recommended by your artist.

"I had my stardust permanent eyeliner done and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. Erika is incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented. She took the time to explain the entire process, answer all my questions, and made sure the shape and shading were perfect to my eyes before starting.

Her studio was very clean and comfortable, and she made the whole appointment feel relaxed and easy. You can tell she really cares about her work and about making sure her clients are happy with the results.

If you’re considering permanent makeup, I highly recommend Erika. 10/10 experience."
